Walter Splawn was born on June 16, 1883 in Arlington, Texas. He graduated from Baylor University in 1906 with a bachelor's of arts degree. Splawn taught at his alma mater from 1910 to 1912. He earned a master's of arts degree at Yale University in 1914, and returned to teach at Baylor in 1916. In 1919, Splawn joined the University of Texas at Austin faculty, and completed a doctorate at the University of Chicago in 1921. Splawn died in Washington, D.C., on January 17, 1963, aged 79

Wayland Pelton Moody was born on October 7, 1902, in Watt, Limestone, Texas. He died on April 13, 1985, in Wortham, Freestone, Texas, at the age of 82.

Jerome Weynand was born in Hondo, Texas, on November 2, 1926. In addition to his earlier stint as a newspaper reporter with the San Antonio Express-News, he had a long career at Alamo Colleges district as registrar, dean of students, vice president and president of the district; and later as the founding Executive Director and a board member of the Baumberger Endowment scholarship fund which enables Bexar County residents to go to college. He passed away in Boerne, Texas at age 96 on May 16, 2023.

Truett L. Chance was born near Liberty Hill on August 23, 1913. After serving 18 months in the Pacific during World War II, he began as a social sciences instructor in January 1947 at San Antonio Junior College. For the 35 years, he taught courses in history, economics, and government, as well as serving as chairman of various departments and establishing the Faculty Senate.

Max Castillo was born on March 15, 1944. Castillo holds a B.A. and an M.A. degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and a doctorate from the University of Houston. He served as president of San Antonio College for ten years until 1992, when he assumed leadership of UH-Downtown.

Dr. Burgos-Sasscer's career in academia began in 1968 when she was hired to teach at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. She later moved to the University of Puerto Rico(UPR) where she held various faculty and administrative positions culminating in the position of Director and Dean (CEO) of the University's Aguadilla Regional College. In 1988 she returned to the mainland United States to serve as vice president of faculty and instruction of Harry S. Truman College in Chicago. In 1993 she moved to Texas to become president of San Antonio College.

Robert Zeigler was born on November 2, 1938. He joined the Navy before attending SAC in 1959. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Sam Houston State University and a doctorate from Texas Tech University. He served as chairman of the college's faculty senate before becoming vice president of academic affairs, vice president and ultimately president.

Robert Vela is a 1994 graduate of Texas A&M University-Kingsville and a holder of two graduate degrees from this institution. Dr. Vela served two years as SAC president-elect, two years as secretary and another two years as a board member before serving as president of San Antonio College from 2014 to June 2022, leading the institution to become the 2021 Aspen Prize Winner for Community College Excellence. After his time at SAC, Dr. Vela became the president of Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Naydeen Gonzalez-DeJesus was born in February of 1976 and holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Penn State University, a master’s degree in student personnel services from Rowan University, and a doctorate from Northcentral University in industrial/organizational psychology. Gonzalez-De Jesus served at San Antonio College as its 13th president, making her the first woman president in a quarter century and only the second to hold the office since the college’s founding in 1925.

Francisco Solis, J.D. is the fourteenth President of San Antonio College. A longtime SAC leader, he returned in March 2024 after retiring in 2023 following 23 years of service. He has served in numerous teaching and leadership roles, including Interim President, Interim Vice President for Academic Success, and Dean for Performance Excellence. A graduate of SAC, St. Edward’s University, and The University of Texas School of Law, he helped lead SAC’s accreditation and national honors, including the Aspen Prize and Malcolm Baldrige Award.
